A swirling combat between multiple fighters from each side.

An active search mechanism used by the alien hunter killer U378. It
locates the MacArthur in "Mutiny"

A "Yankee Search" is a submarine term for an active sonar ping at the highest
level of intensity...it's always detected by an enemy sub because you can hear
the darn thing through the hull (and is it ever spooky)...it's implication is
that you don't care whether they hear you or not either because you're about to
get wacked anyway or you've got them right where you want them...
