"HUNDREDS of factors go into a show's renewal. Ratings was only one of those factors.Morgan & Wong (exec producers/creators) have already moved on to X-FILES & MILLENNIUM this coming season.
FYI: Due to a change in direction for the summer, SPACE summer repeats have their last telecast this coming Sunday, June 30th.
Thanks for writing.

FOX Scheduling"
The deadline for cast contracts is rapidly approaching, June 30th. There has been no "official" word from Fox on a change in status of the show.Ratings for the June 9th episode as reported in the NY Daily News: FOX received its lowest ratings share, since 1993 when they went to 7 days. Sadly SAAB was at the bottom of the ratings (not surprising since it was up against the first game of the NBA finals).
There is a post on SPACE-L from a woman who talked to someone who attended the affiliates meeting on June 4/5. According to this post, Matoian said SAAB is not coming back; the sets have been taken down, and the producers have moved on to other things. Chris Carter doesn't care about SAAB; he's more concerned about Millennium and The X-Files. Supposedly Carter and Matoian are buddies. The guy who was at the meeting said that all our efforts were not going to help.
Upcoming episodes -
Sunday, June 23rd episode is "Never No More" (TV Guide).
Sunday, June 30th episode should be "The Angriest Angel" To respond to the recent article from USA Today in regard to Fox Broadcasting's excuse for canceling SAAB and renewing Sliders -

Inquiries into other networks perhaps acquiring the rights to Space: Above and Beyond are being looked into. Letters can be sent to the following networks -
| WB Network | UPN Network |
| 4000 Warner Blvd. | 5555 Melrose Ave. |
| Burbank, CA 91522 | Los Angeles, CA 90038 |
The decision has been made and it was not in our favor. Indications point to the possibility of Space: A&B returning as a mid-season replacement or as a series of tv movies. This is something we want to encourage. When writing the network, please make sure your letter is polite and neatly written. Try to include some information about yourself and WHY you love the show and why you think it should be brought back for another season. If you think the show would fare better in another time slot then please suggest it.
If you are writing in as part of an organised write-in campaign, do not mention it in the letter. Your letter will be given more weight if it is perceived that it is written by an individual than it would if by a member of a group.
Word has it that the network is ignoring e-mail. If you wish to send e-mail, please do, but don't let it take the place of a letter. The network recognises the effort involved in writing a real letter, so they carry more weight. Besides, stacks of envelopes in a bag make a bigger impression than a full e-mailbox.
The best thing to do is to get all your friends to watch. In the mean time, all we have is our pens, pencils, word processors and our desire for a new season. We can do it!

SPACE: ABOVE AND BEYOND has been cancelled.
The following text appears courtesy of the USA Today Web site -- they're the ones who first broke the news:
Fox's 'X-Files' gets Sunday spotFox will move The X-Files from Fridays to Sundays in the fall to make way for a new series from X-Files creator Chris Carter.
Millennium, about horrific events at the end of the 20th century, will take the Friday-at-9 p.m. ET/PT spot that the science-fiction hit X-Files has held for three seasons.
The network is adding only five new shows for the 1996-97 season while shedding Partners, Profit, Kindred: The Embraced, Strange Luck, The Crew and Space: Above and Beyond.
The low-rated cult series Sliders got a surprise renewal.
But it's also confirmed in the latest press releases by FOX, and in their latest e-mail question and answers.
DON'T DESPAIR -- there still may be hope!
What with the upcoming two new episodes airing ("And If They Lay Us To Rest on May 26th and "Tell Our Moms We Done Our Best" on June 2nd at 7:00 PM PT/ET), and with the summer reruns, it looks like that while the show has been cancelled, FOX will still be monitoring the ratings to see how the show is doing. And hell, if one of the new shows doesn't fare well, S:AAB may yet be called back into action.
So, be sure to check the Space Board. There's been a flurry of posts there (especially in the Open Forum and now the Save S:AAB! Forum) and it is *THE* place to check to see what your fellow fans are doing about the cancellation.
And in addition, please be sure to check Operation HammerFOX for the campaign to save S:AAB!!!
We STRONGLY RECOMMEND that you snail-mail FOX (address below) and give them the low-down on why they should keep this wonderful show on the air. We would also recommend e-mail and phone calls but it looks like they're ignored (more info below).
Here're some interesting facts that arose from the Space Board (thanks to Beth Epstein and to "...the Dr Who completist [for what they] found out trying to get the tele-movie made"):
- Fox throws out all postcards and pretty much ignores phone calls and email.
- On the bright side they consider each snail mail letter to represent 10,000 viewers.
Ironically, the Canadian edition of TV Guide had this little blurb on the show, mentioning that it "...delivers the goods" and that it "...has already outdistanced the syndicated Star Trek: Voyager and Deep Space Nine in ratings." According to Pamela Fry (who sent the image, thanks!), "...it is almost unheard of for our TV Guide to feature a blurb on an American show that does NOT feature a Canadian. We have somewhat of a bias here...(unfortunately...)"
Stay tuned.
On behalf of the Webmeisters, thanks everyone for your support, and for your creative criticisms on the site (heh). It's been very much appreciated.
Semper Fi.
1. We've got some great news regarding the future of SPACE: ABOVE AND BEYOND, direct from MJ Lavaccare, at FOX Scheduling:

The rest of the summer will consist of selected repeats from the 1st Season. TENTATIVELY we have scheduled the 2-hour Pilot for Sun 6/23 & 6/30 (split into 2 one-hours).2. This does not mean that you should stop writing your letters (especially the snail-mail letters) to FOX to show your support for the show.Tell all your friends!!
FYI: Just so noone panics, we will preempt SPACE one-time-only on Father's Day 6/16 due to a previous committment.
